Jon Wilson
I've been at KELO-TV since 1996, but I've called KELOLAND home most of my life. I grew up in Sioux Falls and enjoyed your typical childhood experiences. I graduated from O'Gorman High School in 1982. While at O'G I played football, basketball and track. I also played baseball up until graduation. I continued my baseball career at the University of South Dakota. After USD discontinued the baseball program, I changed my major and changed schools. I received my broadcasting degree from Brown Institute in Minneapolis then started my broadcasting career in radio.
Ten years later I moved into the television industry. I started as a news photographer then moved into sports. I was hired by KELO-TV in 1996 to anchor weekend sports. It's a great job, if you love sports, especially if you grew up here in KELOLAND like I did.
In the fall of 2000 I moved into the News Department and started co-anchoring “KELOLAND This Morning.” We have been the top-rated morning show ever since, and recently won a Regional Emmy Award for best morning newscast. As an award-winning reporter, I also have the opportunity to get out of the studio and shoot human-interest stories throughout KELOLAND.
I still enjoy playing sports on my free time (what little I have). Golf, basketball, softball and hunting top the list. I also enjoy coaching my daughters in softball and basketball. My wife Colleen is a middle school teacher.
