Online Learning Grows In South Dakota
December 15, 2009, 1:20 PM
The South Dakota Board of Regents says growth in online learning at South Dakota public universities outpaces the national trend.
A report from the Sloan Consortium says the number of students enrolled in some type of distance education course in the 2008-09 academic year was up 17 percent over the previous year, compared to a 13 percent growth rate nationally.
Regents CEO Jack Warner says the availability of distance education is especially important to a rural state like South Dakota. Cathy Anderson coordinates distance learning programs for the regents. She says that in South Dakota, online education has become part of the mainstream of higher education.
