What Are Bioidentical Hormones?

You may have heard of bioidentical hormones, but do you really know what they are?
They've been touted as natural, but in reality they're custom-mixed formulas containing various hormones that are chemically identical to those naturally made by your body.
And even though Oprah is a huge fan, you can get hormone replacement tailored to your body in Sioux Falls. A pharmacy on Avera McKennan's campus is one of only a few in the state that compounds the hormone for each woman's needs. Avera Midlife Care for Women tests each patient for an imbalance and then prescribes the correct, often low, dosage.
“Individualizing and being able to do the lowest effective dose on hormone balance and meet the needs of those women that didn't want the options of the synthetic medications. They wanted something more natural and they wanted something more tailored to their own needs,” pharmacist Connie Manderscheid said.
Through Avera's program you can even meet with a pharmacist to tailor your hormone replacement therapy.
