After a national search, Pierre officials have turned up a new police chief. He is Bob Grandpre, a longtime employee of the state Division of Criminal Investigation.
Grandpre will begin his new job on November 17, supervising the 40-member capital city police department.
Grandpre began his law enforcement career as a jailer and dispatcher at Aberdeen in 1977. He later became a deputy sheriff, police officer and detective.
Grandpre was assistant DCI director from 1996 to 2005, when he became the division's identification and information technologies administrator.
