Madison Athletes Busted For Underage Drinking
October 7, 2008, 6:02 PM
Police busted more than two dozen teenagers for underage drinking in Madison, and a number of them are high school athletes now facing possible suspension.
It was around three in the morning on September 27 when police broke up a party at a Madison home. They caught 28 people, 27 of them were underage. Police arrested a 21-year-old for furnishing alcohol to a minor. Four 18-year-olds received underage drinking citations, and the rest were released to their parents or guardians, but may still face charges.
A number of the students were Madison High School athletes, and the superintendent says the district has taken action according to policy. That policy allows for different punishment depending on whether it's the student's first, second, or third offense. Punishments range from being suspended for one game to 12 months, along with mandatory chemical dependency assessments or programs.
