SF City Council Candidates: At-Large District

April 6, 2008, 9:30 AM by Karen Sherman

Sioux Falls will hold city elections April 8th.  Theresa Stehly and Vernon Brown are running for the At-Large seat on the council.   Find out more about them below.

Theresa Stehly
Age: 50
Occupation: Private piano and voice instructor (nationally certified); Voice instructor, University of Sioux Falls; Founder and director of the St. Therese Church Adult Choir; Gardening instructor, Sioux Falls Public School Community Education program.
Family: Single
Top Priorities:
Ensuring basic services like streets, water, sewer, police, fire and paratransit; Holding the line on property tax increases; Putting a stop to extravagant city spending; Vigorously pursuing the best value for our tax dollars; Listening to ALL Sioux Falls citizens, not just special interest groups.

Vernon Brown
: 40
Occupation: Marketing Manager, SDN Communications
Family: Wife, Tami, and 4-year-old daughter, Emma
Top priorities:
It takes a balance of all these items in a city that adds 3,500 people a year, but I prioritize them this way:
*Public safety - adequately staffing police and fire
*Infrastructure - water, streets, and flood control
*Quality of life projects - parks, bike paths, libraries, and events center, which set our community apart from others.
Keep in mind I've supported these issues while leading the effort for a balanced budget, not to mention that we've ended the last two years with budget surpluses.
