Dry conditions are threatening one of the state's top industries: agriculture.
The most recent Drought Monitor shows a large area of South Dakota is in a stage 3, extreme drought.
Twenty-three counties, mostly in western and north central south dakota, are very short of topsoil moisture.
Farmers in Potter county are harvesting early.. just to get what they can out of lagging wheat crops.
And this week, temperatures are expected to take even more of a toll on vegetation. Highs in the 90s and probably some hundreds will bake the already dry ground.
