On Tuesday, June 6th
, South Dakota
voters will pick candidates in the primaries. Registered democrats will be choosing a candidate to run against Governor Mike Rounds in the November general election. The nomination will go to either Jack Billion of Sioux Falls or Dennis Wiese from Flandreau.
Billion is an orthopedic surgeon and former state legislator who's been talking to voters about why he would be a good leader for the state. His challenger, Dennis Wiese, focuses on his skills as head of the Farmer's Union
and his experience with small business when talking with voters. Education, jobs and health care are some of the top issues both men have addressed.
In just over 3 months, South Dakota
will honor those who served in the Vietnam War with the dedication of a statute at the War Memorial site in Pierre
. Parades, concerts and fireworks are just part of the festivities planned for September 15-16, 2006. Organizers hope to get many Vietnam Veterans from South Dakota
to take part in the events. For more information and to register, click here
