Classes are wrapping up for many South Dakota
students, but work to improve the states educational system is just beginning. The 2010 Education Initiative is a sort of road map state leaders looking at the current status of education in the state, where it is going and how to get there. There are three main initiatives: Starting Strong, which targets kids age 3 to grade 3; Finishing Strong, which focuses on making the high school experience rigorous and relevant for students going on to post-secondary education; and Staying Strong, which targets teachers, Native American students and financial resources.
