Anticlimactic Finish For SD Legislative Session

Anticlimactic Finish For SD Legislative Session
PIERRE, SD -

The South Dakota Legislature has wrapped up the 2014 session after a final meeting with scant business on the agenda.

Lawmakers spent less than 15 minutes in their chambers Monday wrapping up the formalities of the session.

The last day of the session, known as "veto day," is typically used to vote on overriding the governor's vetoes. But this year's only veto was considered before lawmakers wrapped up the bulk of their work two weeks ago.

Most legislators had to make trip to Pierre because a quorum is required in the House and Senate to pass a final adjournment.

Many did not make the journey because of work obligations or bad weather in the Western part of the state.

Twenty-four of 35 senators and 38 of 75 representatives showed up.
