Woman Cheers For Brother At Super Bowl

January 28, 2013, 9:55 PM by Stephanie Gregory

Woman Cheers For Brother At Super Bowl
LARCHWOOD, IA -

Whether you watch it for the game or the commercials, millions of people will be sitting around their TV sets on Sunday ready for the Super Bowl.

One KELOLAND woman will be in New Orleans right in the midst of the celebration, cheering on her little brother, Baltimore Ravens Offensive Lineman Marshal Yanda.

Inside the Grand Falls Casino, you'll find more machines than you can count, but this week, for hotel director, Katie Yanda, a much different kind of game is on her mind.

"That's my brother, we're going to the Super Bowl," Katie said.

With the biggest game of the year just days away, it's hard for Katie to contain her excitement. That is surprising, considering up until the past few days, some of her co-workers had no idea her little brother even played for the NFL.

"I try to just tell people that are close to me that have met me first and form an opinion of me first, then I'll tell them," Katie said.

Katie says she is going to leave her job at the casino to catch a plane to New Orleans on Tuesday.

"It doesn't hit me until other people say, 'you're going to the Super Bowl,' I mean everyone has parties, I've been a part of the parties and the gathering for the last several years and now this year I'm not going to be watching the game. I'm not going to be watching the commercials. I'm actually going to be at the game," Katie said.

Only two years apart, Katie and her very big younger brother Marshal grew up on a dairy farm in Anamosa, Iowa. They both went to the University of Iowa where Marshal played football and when he was drafted by the Baltimore Raven., Katie made the move with Marshal to Maryland.

"We were there to support him and we're going to be there next Sunday," Katie said.

Until then, Katie, the Yanda family and Baltimore fans across the country are counting down the hours until the pigskin is in play.

Marshal has also been invited to play in the Pro Bowl the last two years, he didn't play this past Sunday because he was resting up for the Super Bowl. Marshal has played with the Ravens his entire career and just signed another contract to stay with the team for another four years.
