Storm Center Update - Monday PM

January 28, 2013, 3:39 PM by Scot Mundt

Snow will continue in central, north central, and northeast South Dakota through this evening and into early tonight.  Snow will be heavy at times, reducing visibilities to a quarter mile or less.  Snow amounts will be heaviest in central, north central, and northeast KELOLAND through the evening where amounts of two to four inches will be common with isolated six inch reports.  Just to the east of this area the amounts will be far less, but a wintry mix will also be likely after dark and into early tonight.  There will be slick areas due to the combination of freezing rain and light snow, use caution when traveling later tonight and into Tuesday morning.  Lows will eventually fall to the teens and twenties.

This is a fast moving system, but lingering light snow will still be possible in eastern KELOLAND on Tuesday.  Any additional snow will stay less than a half inch.  Highs on Tuesday will be in the twenties and thirties.

Colder weather moves through on Wednesday with highs in the single digits and teens.  Winds will be stronger with speeds of fifteen to twenty-five miles per hour creating wind chills in the teens and twenties below zero.  The cold air will be in full force on Thursday with highs remaining below zero in northeast KELOLAND.

Temperatures will slowly warm on Friday, and that trend will continue into the weekend with highs returning above average by Sunday.
