An eight-car crash in Shindler, South Dakota, kept tow trucks and Highway Patrol troopers busy Monday morning.
The chain-reaction crash began at 5:45 a.m. when two cars collided on an icy Highway 11 between Sioux Falls and Canton. Six more vehicles drove out of the fog, but were unable to stop in time.
Vehicles wound up in the ditch on both sides of the road, but no one was injured.
State troopers on the scene want to remind drivers that the combination of ice and fog is particularly dangerous. They say the only way to avoid crashes is to slow down and put more distance between vehicles.
