Power Back On For All Of Downtown Sioux Falls

Power Back On For All Of Downtown Sioux Falls

After more than 48 hours, power is now fully restored to all of downtown Sioux Falls.

Xcel Energy says crews completed repairs and restored power to all customers on Sunday at 10 a.m.

The power came back on for nearly 95 percent of the people without it early Saturday afternoon. That left only about a dozen customers who didn’t have power Saturday night into Sunday morning.

This outage started at 4:30 a.m. on Friday after an underground transformer caught fire, blowing off manhole covers and even buckling parts of the sidewalk.

More than 500 customers were initially affected Friday morning. But, crews quickly restored power to 300 of those customers in about an hour.

The cause of this incident is under investigation.
