Storm Center Update-Friday AM

January 25, 2013, 7:16 AM by Brian Karstens

It’s a little warmer this morning across KELOLAND, but the warmer weather will be short-lived in the northeast as another shot of colder air filters in from North Dakota.  Highs will hit in the 20s briefly this morning in the east, with mid 40s in Rapid City for the afternoon where the colder air will not be felt.  Winds today will be northwest at 10-20 in both Sioux Falls and Aberdeen, with lighter winds in western KELOLAND.

Temperatures will cold again tonight in the east, a couple degrees either side of zero across the east, with much warmer 20s in the far west.  We’ll see a similar contrast in temperatures tomorrow with highs in the upper 40s in Rapid City, but only in the lower to middle 20s in the east.  Pierre will be in between with readings in the 30s.

The next storm system is forecast to arrive in southeastern KELOLAND Sunday morning, bringing a chance of light rain or freezing rain.  The amounts look heavier east and south of KELOLAND, but NW IA and SW MN viewers will want to pay extra attention to the track of that system.  Warmer air is expected to follow, so Sunday afternoon should feel much better with widespread 30s and 40s.  The mild weather trend will continue on Monday ahead of the next disturbance.  This one will bring a chance of snow to KELOLAND, mainly on Tuesday.  This doesn’t appear to be a major storm at this point, however.

Sharply colder weather will arrive in KELOLAND by the middle of next week, so you should have extra motivation to get a little fresh air while the 30s stick around early in the week.
