Having warm winter clothes is a must, but not everyone can afford it. But this weekend, a Sioux Falls church is making sure those in need have the basic necessities.
Racks full of clothes fill the worship room at Ransom Church. Whether it's a pair of jeans or a sweatshirt, people who need them can find it all this weekend as The Closet opens its doors.
"The Closet is just our opportunity to give back to the community. There are a lot of ways to give back to the community but things we have noticed that we are particularly gifted to meet is the clothing," Lead Pastor at Ransom Church Phill Tague said.
This weekend people who need some new duds to keep them warm and shielded from the elements can fill two bags with all the clothes they need free of charge.
"You just have to show up, no prerequisites, no limits. Our only limits are we want people to be there because we want people to actually be present to get what they need and get the sizes they need," Tague said.
The event is one Ransom puts on multiple times a year and one they hope to continue because of how high the demand has been in the past.
"We are always shocked at how quickly things go. No matter how many times we do this or how many items we have, we never have anything left," Tague said.
Tague expects this weekend's event to be much like the ones in the past.
The doors open at 9 a.m. Saturday morning and close at noon. Items are expected to go fast so Teague suggests people come early.
