SD Supreme Court Makes Decision In Divorce Case

January 24, 2013, 5:53 PM

The South Dakota Supreme Court has sided with the former CEO of Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern railroad in his divorce case.

The Supreme Court upheld a lower court's ruling that Kevin Schieffer can have joint custody of his children. The ruling also lowers the amount of child support his ex-wife had requested.

Carmen Schieffer claimed she needed $25,000 a month in child support because one of the children has special needs. She also wanted custody of the children and planned to move to New York; claiming her child with special needs would get better care there.

The Supreme Court said that the circuit court was reasonable in its calculation of the child support and it's decision to grant joint custody.
