Entwisle, Schock Elected To SDGA Hall Of Fame

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Jim Entwisle of Huron and Paul Schock of Sioux Falls have been elected to the South Dakota Golf Association Hall of Fame.

The election of Entwisle and Schock came during the annual meeting of the SDGA Board of Directors held Jan. 18-19 in Sioux Falls. Both will be inducted into the Hall of Fame later this summer.

Entwisle has won six adult championships, tying him for the 12th most in SDGA history. He won the Match Play Championship in 1980, 1981 and 1986, the Men's Amateur Championship in 1982 and 1987 and teamed with Alan Bales of Huron to win the 1988 Two-Man Championship. In addition , Entwisle is a five-time state junior champion, participated in the 1981 U.S. Amateur Championship, won the Central South Dakota Open three times and was the low amateur three times at the Hillcrest Pro-Am in Yankton.  He was named SDGA Male Golfer of the Year in 1981 and 1987. Currently a member of the SDGA Junior Golf Foundation Board of Directors, Entwisle also served on the SDGA Board of Directors from 1999-2007 and was president of the board in 2005.

Schock is one of four golfers - and the last - to win both the Men's Amateur and Men's Match Play championships in the same year, accomplishing the feat in 2002.  Schock reached the semifinals of the Match Play Championship five times and was twice runner-up in the Men's Amateur Championship, losing in a playoff both times. He was named SDGA Male Golfer of the Year in 1978 and 2002 and has played in six U.S. Amateur championships, one U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships and three USGA Men's team Championships. His 12 wins in SoDak Cup competition is the second most by an amateur and his nine appearances in the SoDak Cup is the second most among amateur golfers. The founder and developer of the Prairie Club in Valentine, Neb., Schock is also a past member of the USGA Mid-Amateur Committee.

In other news, John Knox of Onida was elected president of the board of directors and Bill Scholten of Brookings was elected vice-president.

The SDGA will again conduct 16 championships beginning with the Men's Mid-Amateur Championship on June 1-2 at Broadland Creek National Golf Course in Huron and concluding with the Senior/Mid-Amateur Two-Man Championship at Arrowhead Country Club and Meadowbrook Golf Course in Rapid City on Sept. 7-8.
