Local Cyclist Reacts To Armstrong's Confession

Local Cyclist Reacts To Armstrong's Confession
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

At the center of one of the most hard-hitting controversies to roll into the cycling world is Lance Armstrong. He recently admitted to being part of what some call one of the most sophisticated doping schemes in the industry. Now, loyal cyclists are reacting to the news.

“He made watching the tour a must. You didn’t want to miss a stage because you wanted to see what would happen,” cyclist Dean Kusler said.

Kusler has taken the 16 or 17 mile trip to work on his bike nearly every day for the last five years. He's also on a local cycling team, Central Plains Cycling. Kusler says his view of Armstrong is no where near what it once was.

“Definitely skeptical now of everything he says. After someone's been lying for something like 12 years it’s hard to all of a sudden start to believe them, you know because they go on Oprah,” Kusler said.

Kusler does say the interview was what he expected for the most part; a fairly calculated admission to doping while not being overly apologetic. But Kusler hopes it leads to much deeper investigation into the profession cycling world.

“I hope this is the first step and that there’s going to be more coming from Lance,” Kusler said. “I hope that he starts to talk about the people who helped him because there’s no way he could have done this by himself. There were people at higher levels I'm sure who helped him pull this off.”

He hopes this is just the beginning and if it's not, for Lance to move over.

“Because if it’s just going to be Lance doing things in calculated way to cover himself, then I wish he would just go away and not be in the spotlight anymore,” Kusler said.

Kusler says he is glad Armstrong came forward, but also wished he would have disclosed more information.
