Storm Center Update - Saturday AM

January 19, 2013, 7:28 AM by Ben Cathey

It’s a very mild morning but the warmth and light winds won’t last all day.  A strong push of cold air is moving in from Montana and North Dakota and will chill things off before sunset today.
We have a Wind Advisory in place for northwest winds sustained at 20-40 mph and gusting even higher along the Minnesota border.  The initial plunge of the cold front should bring some isolated light snow, but we don’t expect widespread accumulation.
We’re already seeing the mercury drop in Minot and northern North Dakota.  With the low-level cold air moving quickly, the nice morning weather is heading out.  Clouds will also move in later today.
The cool-down will continue for tonight through Monday.  Tomorrow, don’t expect the typical daytime warming we normally see.  A secondary wave of cold air is going to move in from the northwest and we could see another shot of lighter snow.  The chances are better tomorrow but most won’t get heavy snow totals.  Some in the northeast could see two inches but most others in KELOLAND will have considerably less.
The coldest air comes Monday morning as the very intense high pressure system moves overhead East River.  Even though the winds will slacken by this point, the wind chill could easily drop to -30° in the northeast.
A slow but steady warm trend comes through Wednesday although some computer models do bring a cool front back in on Thursday.
