BROOKINGS, SD -
The longtime head of Brookings County's emergency management department has resigned.
Complaints regarding Todd Struwe's job performance had been presented to the County Commission in recently. Struwe told the newspaper he had no comment about his resignation.
During a December commission meeting, Sheriff Marty Stanwick and Brookings Police Chief Jeff Miller said Struwe did not take initiative during a Dec. 9 blizzard that left dozens of motorists stranded in the city.
Commissioners did not discuss the issues in open session but later met in executive session for personnel issues.
Some commissioners had also criticized Struwe for not acting quickly enough to help solve emergency radio communication problems.
Planning, zoning and drainage director Bob Hill has been appointed to the post in the interim.
