WBK: Augie Rolls Over Crookston
CROOKSTON, MN -

Augustana used a balanced offensive attack headlined by Alex Feeney’s double-double and Faith Tinklenberg’s  season-high 19 points to take down Minnesota, Crookston 93-57.  The Vikings have now won two straight and are 11-2 overall, 7-2 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Competition while The Golden Eagles fall to 5-8 overall, 2-7 NSIC.

Tinklenberg scored in a multitude of ways to score her game-high 19 points, finishing two points shy of a career-high. Feeney poured in 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the year.

The Vikings shot 49.4 percent from the field in the game aided by a 20-36 (55.6 percent) second half showing.  The Golden Eagles were held to 25.6 percent shooting in the second half and finished 31 percent from the field.

Augustana grabbed 53 total rebounds, 16 offensive boards and converted those into 17 second chance points.  Augustana’s starters scored 66 points and nine Vikings scored, all with at least six points.

A sluggish start for the Vikings created a deficit until the Vikings ended the half on a 30-14 run.  Eight Vikings scored in the first half and as a team, Augustana shot 43.9 percent (18-41) from the field.  The Vikings pulled down 28 rebounds, including 12 on the offensive side, 11 more than the Golden Eagles.

Facing a three-point deficit, Emily Schulte and Shaunteva Ashley hit consecutive jumpers to give Augustana their first lead of the game.  Riley Nordgaard then hit back-to-back layups and Augustana’s lea had reached five, 19-14.

Cami Koehn and Andrea Whitney connected on three-pointers to sretch the lead to nine at 25-16 and a steady dose of Alex Feeney jumpers expanded the lead to its largest of the half right before the buzzer, 41-28.

Feeney tallied eight points and six rebounds to lead the Vikings entering intermission.

The Vikings steadily expanded their lead after halftime led by Tinklenberg’s 12 second half points.  Ashley poured in 13 points in the second half stanza after her quiet first 20 minutes.

The Vikings closed the game quickly expanding their lead scoring 14 unanswered points to create a 40-point lead after Cami Koehn’s jumper.

Ashley finished with 15 points and Nordgaard chipped in with 12.  Five Vikings corralled at least seven rebounds and four Vikings racked up at least three assists.

The Vikings have a short turnaround facing No. 22 Wayne State on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. in Wayne, Neb.
