Storm Center Update - Saturday PM

January 12, 2013, 5:11 PM by Ben Cathey

Now that widespread snow is mostly over, we’re setting in for a cold January period.  Though we will gradually warm up through Wednesday, it is going to take a while.
Winds are still very breezy across our region at this hour and it looks like we’ll keep that around through most of the evening.  Not only will lows be below zero in many cases, but the wind chills will be brutally cold.  We’re looking at feels-like temperatures around -20°.
Flurries are still possible in the northeast and in the Black Hills tonight but much heavier accumulations are not expected.  More clouds stick around tomorrow and it’s going to be another cold day.  Some could wake up to freezing fog, as visibilities have remained an issue for much of the past 36 hours.  Roads will become slick across much of KELOLAND and we could see some more blowing snow.
Winds continue out of the northwest through early Tuesday.  By then we’re watching a developing system that will bring clouds and warmth to most.  Snow is also something worth watching, especially West River where moisture will be in place.  Right now we’ve kept snow chances out of the forecast but we’ll track changes.
Wednesday and Thursday will be the warmest days of the coming week.  Temperatures will soar back above January averages, even in the Black Hills.  We should receive a fair amount of sunshine during this period before more changes arrive.  By week’s end, another cold front looks to drop our highs quite a bit.  The coming week still looks mostly dry.
