The Odds Of Rain In January

January 10, 2013, 5:18 AM by Scot Mundt

The Odds Of Rain In January
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Many in KELOLAND enjoyed a January thaw for the first half of the week as temperatures soared well above average.

In fact, since 1990 Sioux Falls has only hit 40 degrees sometime in January only three times. With our January thaw this year, there's a chance for plain rain in Sioux Falls and southeast KELOLAND. Getting rain in Sioux Falls in January may seem uncommon but it does happen.

Looking back since 1990 when Sioux Falls received measurable rain or freezing rain with no snow, it's happened 18 times. The heaviest rain was 55-hundredths, while the warmest temperature we had with the rain was 40 degrees.

With any light rain or drizzle that falls in southeast KELOLAND on Thursday, be aware of falling temperatures after sunset which can eventually lead to icy conditions.
