WBK: Vikings Drop Eight Spots In Latest Poll

After dropping their first two games of the season, Augustana women’s basketball dropped eight spots to 13th in the latest USA Today Sports Coaches’ Poll released Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings have a 9-2 record in the 2012-13 season including a 5-2 record in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition.

The top four teams remain unchanged with Ashland University (Ohio) collecting all 32 first-place votes and holding onto the top spot.  Bentley University (Mass.) stays I second while Clayton State (Ga.) jumped University of South Carolina-Aiken for third and USC-Aiken remained undefeated but dropped to fourth.  University of Indianapolis hopped back into the top five after falling out the previous poll.

Joining the Vikings in the Top 25 from the NSIC, Wayne State fell three spots to 22nd and Minnesota State rides their upset of Augustana to a debut at No. 24.

In the Central region, Washburn and Fort Hays State dropped two games apiece and check in at 12th and 18th, respectively.  Central Missouri enters the poll at No. 15 while Pittsburgh State dropped three spots to No. 20.

The Vikings head to the road this weekend beginning with a 6 p.m. showdown at Bemidji State on Jan. 11 then finish the weekend at Minnesota, Crookston on Jan. 12 at 4 p.m.
