Gov. To Give Insight To Criminal Justice Initiative

January 8, 2013, 12:33 PM by Ben Dunsmoor

Gov. To Give Insight To Criminal Justice Initiative
PIERRE, SD -

South Dakota's 88th Legislative Session is underway. State lawmakers are in Pierre for day one of the 38-day session.

The session officially opened at noon as members of the House of Representatives and Senate were sworn in.

Then at 1 p.m. Governor Dennis Daugaard will address several topics as he gives his annual State of the State address.  One of the big ones will be a criminal justice initiative to reform the criminal justice system in South Dakota and stem the rising prison population.

Immediately following the address, we expect the governor will file his reform bill with the South Dakota Senate.

We'll also be monitoring several other topics as the governor updates legislators on the state, giving them a guide for the upcoming session.

You can watch the governor's address on the Live Coverage page of KELOLAND.com when it begins at 1 p.m.  Then we'll have a full recap for you tonight on KELOLAND News at Five, Six and Ten.
