The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says 31 people died from work injuries in South Dakota during 2011.
The preliminary numbers show that the number of work-related fatalities in the state decreased by five from the previous year.
Of the 31 fatalities, 14 were from transportation incidents. The agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting industry had the largest number of fatalities in the state with eight.
The majority of people who died in South Dakota during 2011 from workplace injuries were white non-Hispanics men who worked for wages and salaries.
