Many people will serve alcohol at New Year's Eve parties. But if you're hosting, it's not a bad idea to have some non-alcoholic drink options.
Whether they have a certain medical condition or have battled alcoholism, you may have guests who either can't drink alcohol or chose not to drink.
Take one certified executive chef and add a registered dietitian and you'll get a good combination to mix up some healthy, non-alcoholic drink options.
Certified Executive Chef John Gilbertson's first drink option is a mock champagne. Along with white grape juice, the recipe calls for ginger ale and pineapple juice.
"They do have juices in them, 100 percent juices. They do have a little bit of ginger ale or soda in there, but you could use diet if you wanted to. We used regular; that's just for that bubbly, that carbonation you're looking for," Beach said.
And it's a responsible drink in more ways than one. Beach says it has about 100 calories less than real champagne.
"The thing about alcohol calories is we don't metabolize them as quickly and really we store them as fat," Sanford Registered Dietitian Teresa Beach said.
"We're going to make frost bite. It's another mocktail," Beach said.
It contains lime juice, pineapple juice, white grape juice, and Sierra Mist. You can also make it more festive by adding fresh blueberries and mint leaves.
But how do these drinks really taste? We gathered a group of people to put the pros to the test.
"I liked the second one better. It had a little more lime juice in it and I like the bite that comes out of it versus the sweetness of the first one," Drew Laberis said.
Along with considering which ingredients to put in your drinks, you also might want to consider the presentation.
"The other thing I think that is really cool is to always freeze your glasses and serve it in a frosty glass," Gilbertson said.
Because Gilbertson says little moments can put a big smile on other's faces heading into the New Year.
