New Year’s Eve Saturation Patrol

December 30, 2012, 10:15 PM by Stephanie Gregory

New Year’s Eve Saturation Patrol
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

It's a celebration to ring in the New Year, but if you have too much fun and try to drive home the Sioux Falls Police Department will find you.

On Monday, extra officers will be out patrolling the city in a New Years Eve Saturation patrol.

"The focus on New Years Eve is on impaired drivers, also addressing speeding and other traffic issues, and seat belt enforcement," said Officer Jeff Gillespie.

They will be keeping you and your family safe, last year police say they got many drivers off the roads for drunk or impaired driving.

"16-to-20 more impaired drivers off the road than what would have normally been arrested," said Officer Gillespie.

Officer Gillespie says he hopes to have what they say is success.

"Success is when, frankly, if nobody gets arrested and there are no crashes involving alcohol, that would be the ultimate success," said Officer Gillespie.

With 16 extra officers patrolling the city Monday night, Officer Gillespie and the rest of the Sioux Falls Police Department say being out can help bring down the danger.

"Unfortunately, we cannot prevent everything. We do out best to try to be proactive and eliminate the possibility, or as many possibilities, of crashes as we can," said Officer Gillespie.

Bottom line, police say: Stay alive, don't drink and drive
