Storm Center Update - Saturday PM

December 29, 2012, 5:28 PM by Ben Cathey

For most of KELOLAND, it’s been a cold start to the weekend.  Snow on the ground had little chance to melt and we’ll be cold each of the next few days.

West River we did squeeze out a little bit more warmth this afternoon along with plentiful sunshine.  Winds will fall off this evening, and with clear skies, temperatures will fall quickly before midnight.  Light south winds should lead to some fog east of the James River and in the Missouri River Valley tomorrow morning.  With more of a breeze at higher elevations, light drifting of existing snow is possible.

Tomorrow looks very similar to today.  We’ll have temperatures on the cool side once again and a fair amount of sunshine by noon.  There could be some lighter snow just to our south and west, including in northern Nebraska.

Monday will be colder and we’ll see more cloud-cover, as well.  New Years celebrations should be very cold but also dry.  The worst of the cold will be to our NE, centered on Wisconsin.

Tuesday will be slightly warmer before another Clipper approaches on Wednesday.  We’re going with thick clouds but little chance of snow.  Right now the system appears starved for moisture.  The warming trend looks to continue through next Saturday.  We could be slightly above-average by that point!

Stay warm tonight!

-Ben
