Man Arrested In Boy's Death

A 24-year-old man is charged in the death of a toddler.

Manegabe Chebea Ally faces the following charges: (charged in the alternative) 1st degree murder, 2nd degree murder and 1st degree manslaughter.

Sioux Falls Police say the toddler who died on Christmas Day may have been beaten.

First responders received a call about an unresponsive child at an apartment building on South Sycamore Avenue Monday afternoon.  When they arrived, the 18-month-old boy wasn't breathing and didn't have a pulse; but later regained a heartbeat.

The toddler died the next day at the hospital.

Police call the death suspicious and say doctor's reports along with an autopsy have led to a criminal investigation.

Ally was arrested at his apartment and is police custody.

He is expected to make his first court appearance on Friday.
