Community Remembers Three Killed In Fire

December 24, 2012, 9:00 AM by Carly Uthe

Community Remembers Three Killed In Fire

The Sioux Falls community gathered to mourn the death of three young victims who were killed in a house fire on Saturday.

Those who attended a candlelight vigil Sunday night had a lot to say about the three whose lives were taken to soon.

The candlelight vigil was held outside of the home that was engulfed in flames early Saturday morning to show their support to the family who lost three of their young children in the fire.

"It's horrible that heaven had to gain these angels. It was too soon," neighbor Kristine Winstead said.

Sixteen-year-old Michael Hensley, 12-year-old Savannah Coon and six-year-old Alivia Coon died together in an upstairs room after their house on 1100 N. Main caught fire and spread too fast for firefighters to rescue them.

"To have to look at the charred mess behind and know how much loss of love is in there,” father David White said.

Neighbors of the family described 16-year-old Michael Coon as someone who kept to himself, who didn't like to be out in the public eye. That’s unlike his 12-year-old sister Savannah Coon. She loved to be around people and always had to see what was going on. Neighbors described six-year old Olivia as a little doll who loved running around.

"I couldn't find them, I couldn't find them," mother Reannan White said.

Members of the community came together during a difficult time and supported one another as they reflected on the young lives that were taken far too early.

The funeral services for the children have been set but the dates and times have not yet been released.
