Storm Center Update-Wednesday AM

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Fog has dissipated with colder temperatures across much of KELOLAND this morning.  Radar trends are dry for now, but changes are on the way by late this afternoon as the next storm system approaches KELOLAND.  A winter weather advisory will go into effect late this afternoon south of line from Vermillion to Worthington.  Snow accumulations of 1-3” will be likely in the advisory area with areas of blowing snow likely.  We’ll keep you posted on this system through the day.

Colder air and north winds are likely tomorrow, with more areas of blowing snow in NW IA during the morning.  Travel could still be very difficult south of Sioux City, so check road conditions if you are heading south into Nebraska and Iowa.  Skies will become mostly sunny tomorrow in most areas of KELOLAND, but highs will be cold in the mid teens to lower 20s.

Dry weather is forecast for the weekend with temperatures warming back into the upper 20s in the east, with mid 40s in the west.  Areas without snow will be the warmest in this pattern. 

Colder air will return early next week with some chance of snow by Christmas.  The northern branch of the jet stream looks dominate at this point, so some sharply colder weather looks likely around Christmas or just after that.
