McGovern's Ashes To Be Buried In DC Early 2013
MITCHELL, SD -

Family members of the late Sen. George McGovern say his cremated remains will be buried early next year in a historic Washington, D.C., cemetery.

Matt McGovern says that the remains are currently in Sioux Falls, where McGovern died in October at the age of 90.

Matt McGovern says the family is looking at a mid-February burial.

When McGovern's wife, Eleanor, died in 2007, she was originally interred at City Cemetery in Mitchell. but her remains were moved to Rock Creek later that year. One of the McGovern's daughters, Terry, is buried in Rock Creek.

McGovern had considered being buried in Mitchell, the town where he grew up and attended college. The community's Dakota Wesleyan University hosts his library and center for leadership and public service.
