Trooper Steen Walks Out Of Hospital

December 14, 2012, 3:31 PM by Ben Dunsmoor

Trooper Steen Walks Out Of Hospital
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Andrew Steen walked out of the hospital Friday and went home eight weeks after he was run over by a suspected drunk driver and suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Steen walked out of the hospital at 1 p.m. Friday with the assistance of crutches.

Dozens of troopers and hospital staff members gathered to applaud Steen as he walked through the lobby of the Sanford USD Medical Center.

Steen and the head of the Highway Patrol said the prayers and support from the community aided in his speedy recovery.

"I've gotten thousands of people praying for me so that saved my life," Trooper Andrew Steen said.

"This process although none of us wanted it to happen, it has shown me that most people are really good people and support law enforcement," South Dakota Highway Patrol Col. Craig Price said.

Steen's parents also talked about their son's recovery Friday saying that having Steen home for Christmas will be better than bringing a newborn baby home.

We'll here more from Steen and his parents on KELOLAND News at Six.
