Storm Center Update-Friday AM

December 14, 2012, 7:15 AM by Brian Karstens

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Quiet weather is likely today ahead of the weekend storm system.  Some areas of fog have developed across the north, but this should lift through the morning.  Highs will range from the upper 20s in Aberdeen to the lower to mid 40s in Rapid City.  Rain will begin this evening in Nebraska and lift north into KELOLAND tonight and tomorrow morning.

Sioux Falls will stay above freezing for this evening, so mainly rain is forecast.  North toward Brookings, Watertown, Sisseton, and Marshall…freezing rain and snow will be the main mode of precipitation.  A winter weather advisory will go into effect after midnight for these areas and will continue until 3am Saturday afternoon.  2-4” of snow will be possible along with some minor icing.  Slick roads will be the main story, so stay tuned for more information through the day.  Precipitation totals will be .25”-.50” in most of the southeast, with locally higher totals in NW IA.  The rain will be welcome in the driest areas of southeast KELOLAND.

The weather looks quiet starting Saturday night into early next week.
