KELOLAND Triplets Born On Special Day, Time

December 13, 2012, 5:00 PM by Sammi Bjelland

KELOLAND Triplets Born On Special Day, Time
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The Hotchkin family is celebrating the birth of three healthy babies. Not only was their birth date something special, but they also have some pretty unique birth times as well.

It's something a lot of people don't dwell on. What time of day were you born? For the Hotchkin triplets, it's something they'll be talking about for years to come.

"Well we went in at noon and they were born at 12:01, 12:02, and 12:03," mother Heidi Hotchkin said.

The Hotchkin triplets were born on December 12, 2012 or as many people like to say, 12/12/12. Their due date wasn't until January 27, but on Monday they learned they'd be getting an early Christmas gift.

"Unexpected; none of this was expected. We weren't expected to deliver yesterday [Wednesday], it just kind of happened. It just so happened that noon was their only opening to get us in," Heidi said.

With such an early birth, there is always the concern that something could go wrong, but the Hotchkin triplets were healthy.  Coincidentally, all together they weighed in at just under 12 pounds.

"They were perfect," Heidi said. "He said it was the best triplets he's delivered. No complications what so ever," father Randall Hotchkin said.

The Hotchkins have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter named Kinley and weren't planning on having many more kids. But with the help of some hormones and a little luck, the couple got a few extra blessings.

"We were hoping for less than two. And we got three. So it was kind of a shock there too. Like I said, none of this was planned," Heidi said.

Heidi and Randall say they still have a lot to do before the babies get to come home, but they're just thankful to be counting 30 little fingers, and 30 healthy toes.

"It worked out really, really, really best, to all our benefits, all the way around. They're doing great, so I couldn't ask for anything more," Heidi said.

Because the triplets were premature, they'll have to stay in the hospital though the holidays. But the Hotchkins say they're just grateful the babies and mom are all healthy.

They are now in the process of naming the two little girls and one boy.
