The Vandrovecs Welcome Twins Again

December 13, 2012, 6:06 PM by Casey Wonnenberg

The Vandrovecs Welcome Twins Again
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

We've been following their story since they lost one of their twin girls who was born premature two years ago.  Now Terry and Jess Vandrovec are the parents of twins again.

They have reminders all over their house of the little girl they lost. Jess went into early labor and delivered her twin girls at just 24 weeks. One of the infants, Breley, died shortly after birth. The other, Kailey, has had quite the fight over the past couple years.

She's now doing much better. Aside from a feeding tube, she's like any other two-year-old.  But again this year, the family was thrown for a loop.

"I looked at the ultrasound. We've been through this enough. They didn't have to tell me there was two. I saw two right away. I cried. I was like, 'We can't do this again,'" Jess said.

Yes, the Vandrovecs were expecting twins again.

"It had us on edge the whole time from the very beginning. It made for a long pregnancy," Terry said.

"At 23 weeks and four days, that's when everything started happening with Kailey and Breley. We could just breathe a little bit. Then we made it to 24," Jess said.

Jess gave birth on November 25 at 33 weeks.

"They can open their eyes now.  And all those things we saw Kailey do for the first time, they were able to do in a sheltered environment, which was huge," Terry said.

Ty and Taylor were both born weighing 4 pounds, 3 ounces. They're both now nearing five pounds.

Big sister Mya loves interacting with her little brother and sister; that's something she didn't get to do with Kailey.

"With Kailey and Breley, since we didn't get to do it, it's a lot better now," Mya said.

While this will be a happy holiday for the Vandrovecs, it is a little bittersweet.

"Kailey and Breley were due December 24th, so it's always the reminder. We have a little tree set up just for Breley. We just put a bunch of angels on it. We always remember her.  But you're so blessed this time around things happened a lot differently," Jess said.

It's a different outcome that the family is very thankful for this holiday season.

"Get home when they're ready. Most people would say as soon as possible, but we're at ease back here right now, knowing what they're not going through," Terry said.

The one issue Kailey does still have is she doesn't know how to suck, swallow and breathe at the same time. She hasn't had much of an interest in drinking out of a bottle or using a pacifier. That's something her parents think maybe the new babies can actually teach her.
