Franken Working On 'Stalking Apps Bill'

December 12, 2012, 4:56 PM

Franken Working On 'Stalking Apps Bill'
Al Franken

Minnesota U.S. Senator Al Franken has been working on a bill that would cut down on apps that transmit your location and information.

The 'Stalking Apps Bill' would make any apps that intentionally tell you someone’s whereabouts illegal.

The legislation would also require app-makers to ask your consent in order to give out your location and information to advertisers and third parties.

"I believe Americans have a right to privacy and a right to control who can take that information and who can collect that information and third parties they can share it with,” Franken said.

The bill is expected to be in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.
