Senior guard Cameron McCaffrey has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week the league announced on Monday morning.
McCaffrey, a senior from Portland, Ore., led Augustana to a 70-58 win over rival University of Sioux Falls on Saturday night pouring in a career-high 36 points. McCaffrey finished the game 10 of 21 from the field, knocking down 3 of 7 3-pointers. The senior was lights out from the free throw line as well, going 13 of 13. On Friday night, McCaffrey led the Vikings with 16 points on 5 of 10 shooting, while knocking down 5 of 7 free throws in the contest.
McCaffrey averaged 26.0 points and 2.0 rebounds over the weekend while shooting 48 percent from the field and 90.0 percent from the free throw line. He has scored 20 or more points in a game now 26 times, and has scored 25 or more points nine times in his career. McCaffrey has reached double-digits in all seven games this season and 73 times in his career.
McCaffrey is the first men's basketball player of the week honoree since Cody Schilling garnered the honor on Feb. 28, 2011.
Augustana is 7-0 on the season, including 3-0 in NSIC play and returns to action on Friday, Dec. 14, at Winona State at 8 p.m. The Vikings will then take on Upper Iowa at 6 p.m. on Saturday in Fayette, Iowa.
