Yankton Superintendent To Resign In June

Yankton Superintendent To Resign In June
Joe Gertsema

The longtime superintendent of the Yankton School District is stepping down after 23 years on the job.

Joe Gertsema says he wants to pursue other challenges in the field of education.

In October, Gertsema was arrested for drunk driving at a sobriety checkpoint near Vermillion. Gertsema says that incident has nothing to do with his decision to leave.

Gertsema's resignation takes effect in June.

KELOLAND News has attached a copy of Gertsema's resignation letter below.
