Sioux Falls Road Projects For 2013

December 6, 2012, 6:09 PM by Sammi Bjelland

Sioux Falls Road Projects For 2013
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

You can expect more road construction next year in Sioux Falls. On Thursday, the city unveiled its "Keep Sioux Falls Moving" campaign, detailing next year's major construction projects.

Topping the list is reconstruction and expansion of Russell Street from Louise Avenue north to Minnesota Avenue. The project includes widening the street to three lanes and adding new bridges before the Denny Sanford Premier Center opens in 2014.

Another big project for residents to look out for will be a complete makeover of Kiwanis Avenue from Madison to 10th Street.
They will also be expanding this section from four lanes to five lanes.

On the west side, there are also plans to build a new overpass onto I-229 from Solberg Avenue near the Avera Heart Hospital.

Other projects include:

  • Reconstruct and expand the intersection of 57th Street and Western Avenue
  • Replace and upsize the Sioux River South Trunk Sewer
  • Extension of SD-100
  • Reconstruct and expand the intersection of 10th Street and Sycamore Avenue
  • New modern interchange at I-90 and Cliff Avenue

Mayor Mike Huether says these changes are needed for a growing city.

"We grow 3,000 to 4,000 residents a year. We do realize that's going to make us more congested, make us much more busy than we are today. And that's why we are making this transition," Huether said.

These projects are subject to change depending on available funding.
