Boost In Botox Use

December 6, 2012, 6:06 PM by Casey Wonnenberg

Boost In Botox Use
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

You might think most women who use Botox live on the East or West Coast but local dermatologists say they're seeing more people ask for the treatment.  And that's especially true this time of year.

Monica Likness hopes to look her best this holiday season. That's why she's turning to Botox.

"I'm one who frowns a lot, so it eliminates that line," Likness said.

"There's a lot of people who want to look a little bit different or better or younger for the holidays with all the holiday parties and seeing family," Avera Dermatologist Dr. Jana Johnson said.

Johnson says during her ten years as a dermatologist in Sioux Falls, she's seen an increase in the number of women getting Botox almost every month.

"The results are actually pretty dramatic," Johnson said.

Johnson says another reason for the increase in Botox use is it's one of the least expensive cosmetic procedures available. It costs anywhere from $150 to $700 generally, depending on how many areas are treated.

"The downtime is very minimal. Usually by the time people have left our office you really can't tell they've had anything done," Johnson said.

The one downfall is to keep the results you have to come back every three to four months.

"It does work better on younger people who have smaller areas that they want tweaked. But if people are to the point where they have wrinkles and lines on most areas of their face then they maybe need a deeper procedure or something more substantial done," Johnson said.

But for 58-year-old Likness, Botox gives her the boost she's looking for, especially during the holiday season.

"It's always nice to look a little younger and make you feel better," Likness said.

Johnson says not only do more women come in this time of year, she's also seeing more men go under the needle.  She's also seen an increase in other cosmetic procedures, especially fillers.
