The Texas Attorney General wants the state to take over Warren Jeffs' 1,600-acre compound in West Texas.
In court filings last week, the Attorney General says the state wants to seize the Yearning for Zion ranch because that is where several children were sexually assaulted by Jeffs and several members of Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
South Dakota may be affected by this news because Jeffs' followers and the FLDS have a compound in Custer County, South Dakota, near Pringle.
While this is just a court filing to seize the Texas property right now, and FLDS members have a chance to fight the seizure, there is a question of where the followers would go if they are evicted.
The property in South Dakota has seen a lot of activity recently, including construction work that was happening this fall. There are currently 22 structures on the property and South Dakota officials estimate that about 200 to 300 people live there.
