Storm Center Update-Monday AM

December 3, 2012, 6:50 AM by Brian Karstens

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

It's a very mild morning across most of KELOLAND after setting a record high temperature yesterday in Pierre, Aberdeen, and many other locations. Today will be just a little cooler but still very mild with highs mostly in the 50s for the afternoon. Northwest winds will be strong from the northwest 20 to 35 mph.  Showers have been moving across parts of western in northern KELOLAND this morning, but don't expect anything heavy from this activity.

Tonight looks clear and temperatures will be dropping back into the 20s and lower 30s. Tomorrow looks like a less windy day and still mild for this time of the year with highs ranging from 40 in Aberdeen to the mid 50s in the south.  The mild weather trends will continue into Wednesday before cooling weather starts later this week.   There could be some light precipitation on Friday, but more importantly, we'll keep an eye on the latest models for any chances of snow for the weekend.  The new European model gives Sioux Falls 7” of snow Sunday, followed by high winds and subzero weather on Monday.  Do I believe this???  Well, the American (GFS) model suggests a similar system, some phasing of the northern and southern jet steam branches, and a swath of snow in South Dakota.  Interesting.  I hope you’ll stay tuned to the forecast.
