Sky's The Limit For Cyclones

November 26, 2012, 10:44 PM by Matt Holsen

Sky's The Limit For Cyclones
CLARK, SD -

High school basketball tips off next week already and this Monday it was the boys turn to begin practice. When it comes to Class A this season, plenty of headlines will come out of Clark/Willow Lake. The Cyclones finished sixth last year at state but with SDSU recruit Skyler Flatten leading the way, the sky's the limit.

Usually on the first day of practice, things don't go as smoothly as you hope.

"We're pretty rusty, but that will come along," Flatten said.

If this is what rusty looks like, Clark/Willow Lake is off to a flying start led by its senior standout, Skyler Flatten.

"He's so athletic. There's some plays you can run, he gets in the air so well, it's a highlight reel," head coach Jerome Nesheim said.

The 6'5", 205-pounder averaged nearly 24 points, six boards, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots per game his junior year. Needless to say, he can do it all. But, he's quick to point out it takes more than one.

"This is a team effort out here," Flatten said.

While it takes an entire team to succeed, there's no doubt Flatten has energized the community.

"Having a kid like Skyler, it creates so much fun for the other kids to watch. Our fans love to come and watch him play just because he's so athletic and he plays above the rim. In high school athletics, you don't often see that," Nesheim said.

Coach Nesheim will try to guide that talent to a title in Flatten's final season. While the future Jack is excited to get to Brookings, he and his teammates want a championship.

"Lots. So does everyone else on this team. Everyone does," Flatten said.

The Cyclones were 17-8 last year. They begin the season at home against Sioux Valley on December 8th.
