Storm Center Update - Sunday PM

November 25, 2012, 6:25 PM by Ben Cathey

Snow continues in the Black Hills with a slushy mess in much of SW South Dakota.  Some places like Custer have picked up two inches but much of this is melting.  It’s actually warmer in Rapid City than Sioux Falls.  More moisture and energy arrives tonight, so as we cool we can expect more snow.
This will start to push east tomorrow morning.  Cold and dry air from the north will then force the storm into Nebraska.  We could see a dusting in Pierre and central South Dakota but heavy snow is looking unlikely.  Flurries will also try to move into the far NE, as Arctic air rushes in overnight.  Some spots in the Black Hills could end up with more than four inches of snow.  On the plains south of Rapid City, we’re looking for 1-3” of snow by tomorrow morning.  Though moisture is possible in Sioux City and Norfolk, Nebraska, most of this will bypass Sioux Falls.
Again, Aberdeen will be very chilly by tomorrow morning, with many in the single digits.
Warm air comes back starting Tuesday.  This should last through next weekend.  There is also a small system for NW Iowa to watch for next Friday that could bring showers.
