CMB: USD Tops Waldorf
VERMILLION, SD -

Five South Dakota players scored in double figures as the Coyotes topped Waldorf 84-59 Saturday at the DakotaDome. The win moves USD to 3-3 while Waldorf fell to 1-6. The Coyotes begin Summit League play Thursday at home against Western Illinois.

USD freshman forward Tyler Flack flirted with a triple-double. He had 14 points, seven rebounds and eight blocked shots – two blocks shy of the Coyotes’ single-game record. Teammate Karim Rowson led all scorers with 15 points.

Robert Burns led the Warriors with 12 points. Jordan Nelson and Gunsby DeJohnett added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

South Dakota led 43-23 at halftime backed by Brandon Bos’ 10 points off the Coyote bench. Bos finished with season highs of 12 points, four rebounds and four assists. USD shot 42 percent from the field and was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line in the first half.

Waldorf closed the gap to 62-48 near the midway point of the second half, but drew no closer. The Warriors were 20-of-60 from the field (.333) and 5-of-15 from behind the arc (.333).

South Dakota committed a season-low six turnovers one night after committing a season-high 22 in a win against Culver-Stockton. Only one of those turnovers came in the second half. Point guard Juevol Myles had 12 points, six assists and no turnovers in 23 minutes of play.

USD guard Jordan Boots made three 3-pointers and had 11 points off the bench. The Coyotes’ bench out-scored the Warriors 33-15.
