Working Off The Post Turkey Weight
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

You might be feeling a little sluggish Friday, after feasting on what many consider the biggest meal of the year.
But there is a way, besides shopping, to get out of that post turkey slump.

With the average American eating around 3,000 calories during a Thanksgiving meal, this can leave you feeling a little uncomfortable.

"I ate a really big Thanksgiving dinner. Actually, one year after Thanksgiving I weighed myself. I gained eight pounds just over the dinner," Shane Heilman said, as she was exercising at Sanford Wellness on Friday.

According to health experts at the Sanford Wellness Center, the best way to get out of the post turkey slump, is to hit the gym.

"People need to come workout to be able to just get away from everything. And also to start the process of losing some weight," Exercise Specialist Adam Duerksen said.

Not only is a solid workout going to help you loose some of those holiday calories, it could also improve your mood.

"Stress levels are high. There's a lot of problems with getting things done. You've got kids, you've got running around doing work. So it keeps the stress levels down," Duerksen said.

And if you're looking for a way to get motivated, just remember to take it one day at a time.

"Anything helps for now. You can work up to something harder later but it's just a big balance between life and everything else that needs to happen first," Duerksen said.

"You got to keep a healthy lifestyle over all. You can't just say I'll be healthy for these couple of months and unhealthy for this time. I want to be healthy all the time," Heilman said.

Some advice Duerksen has for beginners is to take it slow at first and build up to harder workouts as you go. He also advices everyone to eat in moderation, even if there is a big feast at the table.
