Near-Record Highs On Thanksgiving
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The Thanksgiving holiday started with near-record highs.  But as the day cooled, some parts of KELOLAND even saw some snow. 

Thanksgiving falls on a range of dates so it's difficult to boil down what's considered normal weather. Still, we can usually count on a few things when we're this far north: cold, short days. 

The average highs are mainly in the upper 30s by this time in November, with Sioux Falls coming in at 37 degrees.  Very early Thursday morning, we were almost 20 degrees above that.  But soon after the sun sets, we'll be closing in on the teens.  

These fast-moving cold fronts are no stranger to KELOLAND on Thanksgiving and that often means snow.  Both Sioux Falls and Rapid City received snow on more than a third of the holiday dates.

Over the past decade, we've had big swings in our weather.  Last year Sioux Falls had the second warmest Thanksgiving Day on record when we topped out at 65.  In 2010, we had one of the top ten coldest thanksgivings.
